ah hahahaha ahahahaah! hahahahaha.... oh sorry. I can't stop laughing.. Access has nowhere near the features and storage of MySQL, and it's not GPL like MySQL..
Considering the number of users of this grossly underestimated DB you are likely to exclude it may be worth considering. Your ha! ha! had an air of arrogance that could be interpreted as offensive to some.
Simple fact remains that the MS Access db does not provide the speed, space, or security needed for large data intensive applications. I've developed many applications around MS Access because that was our only choice- and it wasn't pretty. Porting these applications to MySQL increased productivity ten fold. Thank the db gods for indexes!
MySQL was terrible for such a long time. They have finally adhearing to proper RDBMS standards, and low and behold they are slowing down. Easy to be lightning fast when you are not doing 1/2 the work like integrity checking. I would like to see PostgreSQL added.
Definitely!!! Access! First of all, many people want to use ASPNuke for their company Intranet. Especially if they are a small-to-medium-sized business, they may not have a 2000/NT/XP server to throw at it, so they want to host it on a simple local Win95/98/ME machine, perhaps even one that is being used for desktop work too. Such people can use other ASP-enabled servers to use ASPNuke for their Intranet, but still can't or don't want to run the SQL server. They need Access database support.
The production release of MySQL 5 will change the windows hosting world. It is the cost of SQL Server that keeps web hosting services from using it and only offering MS Access. MySQL will be cheaper (free) and will even have available support that web hosting can afford.
To the end user MySQL 5 triggers ,views and some other items will cover the gaps inbetween MS Access, MySQL 4 and MS SQL Server.
Well, it's very good thing, I was think about to made myself, because MS SQL is a bit... expencive. GPL is a great way to study everything and modify the way you like it! MS SQL is not so good for GPL projects. Anyway, is there examples of Apache+ASP+MySQL+FreeBSD/Linux ?
ASP Nuke is potentially useful to me because my client is on an all MS system. I hope you will consider this as a user-base that you should always accommodate
